Researchers in EPOS are concerned with the question how information is acquired and represented, understood and communicated, how it is used in the control of action, and how it is stored in the brain.

They adopt a variety of methods in the study of cognition, ranging from cognitive-behavioral approaches to formal analysis and model simulations, behavior genetics, neuropsychological methods, psychophysiological techniques, brain imaging and stimulation techniques.

Among the topics of study are attention, perception, action, memory, emotions, decision making, cognitive control, and language.
